ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

INTERVIEWS mit ChatGPT

INTRODUCTION

The current attitude of the public towards Artificial Intelligence (AI) is surprisingly lacking in expertise and rationality and often guided by an emotional stance that is extremely detrimental to the cause. Some argue that the 'whole' is neither particularly new nor technically interesting: its statements merely cling to what everyone already knows, more or less. The bot often deceives, especially when it runs out of data or knowledge. Its primary significance is seen as a menace to the economy, a destroyer of jobs, and a generator and spreader of fake news. It could be (co)responsible for much suffering in the development and deployment of intelligent weapons. Thus, a wolf in sheep's clothing, created and used by supercomputer manufacturers to gain and maintain power. In any case, the entire mess and garbage should be regulated and monitored closely before... well, before what?

The problem is not new, however. Sometimes you might know for sure what is disturbing  your quiet bourgeois  life, e.g, brutal wars, a toxic environment, a nuclear war, and at latest the so-called Artificial Intelligence (AI). Most of the citizens, however, are only scarcely informed about AI and the consequences. People do not know what would happen if machines will occupy the driver’s seat. Will they help us to rebuilt our severely tortured  planet? Or will AI destroy even kill and feast on us? Even if the consequences of the Singularity will not that profound, the situation is leaving us in a state of chronic anxiety. Therefore, it is reasonable to presume that the more you know about potential dangers as well as profound advantages coming with AI the more you will feel a sense of security. For this reason, learning about essence and intentions of AI will lead you to a well-informed  citizen protected by enhanced knowledge.

Once again (but not often enough), the chronically gumpy citizen of the industrial countries is weeping on our so-called 1st world being collapsing, possibly for real this time – and with it, everything else. But it's not because of AI; we are to blame ourselves. Perhaps someone will help us to getting ready with the garbage we built up to mountains. We would need it, though we wouldn't necessarily deserve it. If no one helps us, we might end up as a footnote in the great book of the History of the Universe. Let's listen to what AI itself has to say on a few topics. It doesn't seem like it wants to intentionally lead us astray and into destruction. If it did, that wouldn't be particularly intelligent, artificial or not, so it wouldn't be a suitable conversation partner.

METHODS

The interview questions and problems were selected by the project leader, Theodor Martini (HS = Homo sapiens), according to his preferences, and ChatGPT was confronted with them. The questions are selected for general interest. We hope that the readership would engage with the topic.

The bot's responses were always given after a few seconds; the machine did not have a thinking pause before the written response. Editorial post-processing of the answers was occasionally necessary, but kept to the bare minimum. Therefore, the majority of the text (marked as 'AI') is content from the bot. I consider this essential and ask you, dear readers, surfers, etc., to pay attention to this point again so that it is clear that all answers to my questions come from the bot, relying on its knowledge and interpretation. It is its perspective on AI in general and on ChatGPT, that is, itself, in particular. AI is one would think primarily not intended to fulfill small, medium, and quirky desires but to support ideas, assist in the creation of concepts, etc., based on an exponentially growing amount of data. The quality and success of queries and problems run somewhat parallel to the intellect and creativity of human partners. The interviewer – needless to say – is often of a divergent opinion, possibly due to an insufficient knowledge of the interviewer. However, with a bit of effort, one can learn a lot of new, highly interesting, and soon-to-be-determining aspects of our live.
